Pasco heroes rescue stranded residents, pets
HEROES IN PASCO: Joe and Kyriakos Papapanos knew people would be stranded in Elfers today, so they jumped in their boat and went door-to-door. Here's the rescue of a woman who was not willing to leave her two tiny kittens behind, but they waited for her to gather her things and the kittens and took her to higher ground. GREAT WORK!

A message from Metropolis of Atlanta Philoptochos
August 24, 2016
Everyone in the community is safe, although several have been displaced from their homes and have lost many, if not all, of their physical belongings. Aid to these families continues to be provided by the generosity of the Metropolis of Atlanta and National Philoptochos chapters.
On Sunday, the parish celebrated their first Divine Liturgy on church grounds since the floods occurred. The exterior of the church is still standing but the inside has been badly damaged by the flooding. Over the weekend, the interior and exterior of the church were cleaned up, damage assessed and all icons salvaged. The community continues to move forward with restoration plans.
“I can tell you I feel far better about this entire situation than I did when I first set foot in the church this past Wednesday and saw what we would be dealing with,” stated Mike Rood, Holy Trinity’s Parish Council President, “As time goes on, I know that through the Lord's guidance, our efforts, and with the assistance and prayers of our entire Orthodox family that we can't fail.”
Donations are still needed at this time to help with rebuilding efforts and to aid displaced families. To make a donation to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Baton Rouge, La. for flooding disaster relief, please contact Ms. Dee Nicolaou, Director of Disaster Response and Metropolis of Atlanta Philoptochos President, at 813-294-0346 or nicolaou@msn.com.
Checks can be made out to the Metropolis of Atlanta Philoptochos and mailed to:

A Message from His Eminence, Metropolitan ALEXIOS of Atlanta on the tragedy in Orlando: June 13, 2016
Beloved in the Lord,
“In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
It is with a troubled and sorrowful heart that I greet you today in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Like each of you, I grieved to learn about the tragedy that took place in Orlando, Florida. Let us join together and extend our deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to the parents, families and friends of the people who were killed. This mass shooting yesterday has affected our entire nation; messages of hope and encouragement are pouring in from around the world. Together, we are praying that our Ascended Lord bestow us with hope and strength to minister and support our grieving brothers and sisters.
In the face of such terrible events, we may feel confused and angry: why would anyone do such a horrible thing? Yet we only have to open the newspaper or watch television to be reminded that such evil does indeed occur, and that we live in a broken world, in desperate need of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, with its eternal message of love, forgiveness and peace.
I am reminded once again, that in spite of differences among people, the Lord our God does not condone even the smallest measure of violence towards those with whom we might disagree. For this reason, we as Orthodox Christians have a sacred responsibility to vocally protest these actions that harm the very fabric of this nation’s spiritual and emotional psyche.
While we may not be personally affected, the families and friends of the fallen remain in our thoughts and prayers. May our loving and merciful Father comfort and strengthen them during this difficult time and as they face the future without their loved ones.
May their memories be eternal!

Epiphany 2016 Diver meetingsWelcomeHis Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta called together a Council, called the Tampa Bay Area Metropolitan's Council; in May 2013, in order to best respond to the cultural diversity and pastoral needs in the region. The local parishes would form separate regional council to better communicate the various community needs of the area.
The purpose of the Tampa Bay Area Metropolitan's Council is to preserve and contribute to the unity of the Orthodox Church by helping to further her spiritual, theological, ecclesiastical, canonical, educational, missionary and philanthropic aims. As well as bring together the community and her youth into one communion. To accomplish this, the Council has as its goals: i) the promotion and accomplishment of Church unity ii) the strengthening of the common pastoral ministry to all the Orthodox faithful of the region; iii) a common witness by the Church to all those outside her. iv) develop a common calendar for communities to better support the vital core of events v) to strengthen the youth activities in the region The Council, which meets bi-monthly, functions by a consensus of all its members. It has established a number of committees to help further its work. These committees are charged by the Metropolitan with specific tasks; they are made up of member each community's Parish Council and Ladies Philoptochos Society, and are assisted by lay and clergy advisers as well as the ambassadors and Archons of the region. The Council understands itself to be part of the Metropolis of Atlanta, and as such, it supports all of its agencies, dialogues, and other ministries under the directive of the Metropolitan.
